Myk Klemme

I’m Myk Klemme and I like to create things

I am a mostly self-taught multi-disciplinary artist–from art and design to coding and music. I am constantly learning and improving, sharing what I discover with anyone who will listen.

My adventure in tech began in third grade where I would make simple profile pages for my friends on Neopets and later MySpace. I managed my own domain by fifth grade and would install open source software to tinker and make things with, including WordPress sites, phpBB forums, and MediaWiki wikis and even send emails to the host provider to upgrade their PHP version when the library required it.

Creativity and design thinking are my 10,000 hour skills

Popularized by Malcom Gladwell, the concept of the 10,000 hour mastery is that it takes about that long of focused and targeted practice at a skill to start becoming an "expert" at something. Instead of restricting myself to one skill like painting or web design, I have spent my career learning the creative process and design thinking and it's application in a variety of mediums. An example is design systems and how they are used in web, print, character design, branding and even music production. You can see this in my portfolio where I am able to quickly jump between mediums and create decent results as a beginner.

My passion in my career is for an intrapreneur-type role like fullstack product engineering where I can collaborate with product, design and customer-facing partners to design and build incredible features. I am also good at system design and design systems to help streamline feature development and create consistency on the site. I am also a good mentor and enjoy helping others learn and grow in their careers.

Long-term, I am also interested in investment like managing my own public investment fund to help support Celtic-related projects and companies like reviving the Irish language, creating a Celtic music & sports festival, and animation or games.
