The Information Year in Review: 2017
2017
I led the information architecture, art direction, illustration, and layout for The Information's Year In Review coffee table book which was completed in a month as a team of two. Before this project I had only printed bi-fold brochures so this was a great learning experience. I had to rely on that experience to quickly establish design patterns that the pages would use while allowing for custom designs for some articles. There was a hard deadline to complete this within the month and send it to the printers for it to be ready for our holiday party.

Article page design
Each article followed a structure with consistent placing while allowing some to have custom designs
- Header area containing the page number, topic, URL to read it on the site, mentions and when it was published
- Some articles had custom designs like the one for Uber’s Top Secret “Hell” Program Exploited Lyft’s Vulnerability unique for this book
- Annotations were added from the original reporter for background information, updates that happened after publication and other important things to highlight

Author headshots
I was able to find an illustrator who created these sketches of the team and used throughout the book
- Every article had the author headshots at the end and followed the byline order which is important for news publications
- There was also a page dedicated to the team along with the credits
